A hotly-tipped new face on the comedy scene, Jimmy performs at comedy clubs up and down the country, to great acclaim. He began doing stand-up regularly in 2005, reaching the finals of the BBC New Talent competition and the Amused Moose Star Search. Jimmy took his first solo show, ‘Jimmy McGhie’s Northern Meeting’, to the Edinburgh Festival in 2009. He is in the middle of previews for this years Edinburgh show, catch him at one of the below dates in London or at the prestigious Pleasance Courtyard from the 4th to the 30th of August.
Q. Describe your current state of mind?
Confused, generally.
Q. Who or what is the love of your life?
I suppose I should say stand-up. Given that it can make me both ecstatic and utterly miserable in the same day then I guess it must be the love of my life.
Q. What is your most pronounced character trait?
Barefaced cheek. When I am hungover I get very hyperactive and become the most irritating little shit.
Q. Which trait do you most value in others?
Honesty.
Q. Which trait do you most deplore in others?
Success.
Q. What word or phrase do you most overuse?
Astonishing.
Q. When were you at your happiest?
On a beach in India, 2 valium down, a bag of fresh mangoes and a bit of Dire Straits on the ipod….bliss.
Q. What talent do you wish that you had?
I would love to be able to sing. I used to sing like a lark but then puberty robbed me of my soprano and left me with nothing except doubts and inadequate amounts of facial hair.
Q. What angers you most in life?
Little petty things. Important things such as war, famine, and politics seem to pass me by but I get mad as hell over petty grievances. Today some builders started re-doing the brickwork on a house. They coated my car with brick dust and when I remonstrated with them I was told it was not their problem!
Q. Who are your heroes?
Niven, Gandhi, Pryor, Flintoff, Lloyd.
Q. Who are your favorite artists?
I do like a Lowry.
Q. Where would you like to live?
In the mountains of Laos, in a stilt house made of bamboo.
Q. What is you single greatest achievement?
Doing the studio warm-up for ITV’s Loose Women.
Q. What is your motto?
Nothing is ever as bad as it seems, until it is…and then it is usually fucking bad.
