MACS QUESTIONS TO OUR EXPERTS

MACS have collated all the essential beauty questions we have had in from our readers…

Question: I usually wear dark coloured nail polish, when I remove the polish my nails are always stained. Why is this?

Answer: Darker nail polishes contain strong pigments to allow the colour to stay longer and to produce the depth of the colour. Try using a Jessica basecoat this will shield the natural nail from staining as well as treating the nails general condition. Also try to give your nails a breather from colours from time to time.

Question: I exfoliate before spray but I still seem to be very patchy why is this and how can avoid this?

Answer: usually the body can appear patchy after spray tan due to several reasons.

1)   The exfoliant you maybe using is not strong enough or is not being applied properly and used correctly.

2)   Ensure you use a good scrub the night before the tan, paying particular attention to the drier areas (knees and elbows).

3)   On the day avoid body moisturisers as these can act as a barrier and prevent the tan from setting correctly.

4)   Lastly ensure you go to a good salon 9 out of 10 reasons a tan looks patchy is down to the application. A good therapist will spray evenly and use a barrier cream on the drier areas. Exfoliating body scrub is a star product to use.

Question: I’m in my late twenties and I would like to step up y skin care regime, what would you suggest?

Answer: firstly you would need to protect you skin daily and keep it up with a cleanser, toner and moisturiser, without knowing your skin type you will need to consider and exfoliant and a mask (to be used twice a week) and with any major concerns use skin boosters. I would highly recommend a skin mapping session with dermalogica. A therapist can then asses your skin type, condition and concerns. They will then recommend products that will suit your skin. This way you can start a regime knowing the products are going to give the maximum results for your skin.

______

Question: A friend told me not to use night cream as it just ends up on your pillow, Is this true?

Answers: This is not true, the reason a night cream is so thick is to allow residue on the pillow but also to provide as much to stay on the skin. Night creams tend to be stronger, provides more active ingredients. Which repairs, reconstructs and heals the skin. Your skin opens up at night allowing product penetration meaning a night cream is essential. Pure night from he chromawhite range is highly recommended.

______

Question: Can I use moisturisers on oily skin?

Answers: of course, but be aware an oiler skin does no need a thick moisturiser as there is excess oil apply an emulsion type.  Light moisturiers (active moist) this will help prevent oily shine, absorbs excess oils and protect the skin.  Try not to overload the skin with too much moisturiser.

______

Question: I’m 49 and my skin is in good shape except for my eyelids. Eye creams usually irritate, what would you recommend?

Answer: It sounds like your eye area is thin, hence the irritation and some products you maybe using might not contain natural ingredients. Try Multivitamin power firm from the Age Smart range from deramlogica. This is a light cream/gel that will replenish, hydrate and firm even the most delicate eyes. With all the essential vitamins I guarantee a smoother look and no irritation.

______

Questions:  I have blackheads, only on my nose. I have tried tonners, facial washes, creams, and pore strips. Everything I use does not seem to work what else can I use?

Answer: You need to ideally have regular facials to ensure the face is deeply cleansed and blackheads are removed (extracted) safely in the mean time. Try cleansing twice a week in the evening to avoid build up in the pores.
