Loves: Doing something Unexpected

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Doing something unexpected is a great way to raise your spirits and a great excuse to do something that you normally wouldn’t. I live in London and there’s always so much going on and yet I usually find myself holding up in front of the telly. If you make the effort to try something new even something little your be amazed at how much more fulfilled your feel. Try:

Loves: World Record Easter Egg Hunt in London

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

There are certain times in the year when it can seem like a real drag to be a Londoner, sometimes I’ll find myself harking to be in the countryside, the great outdoors, just me juxtaposed against the sweet embrace of mother nature. But it only takes a little event like the World Record Easter Egg Hunt to remind me how fantastic it is to live in this metropolitan slightly crazy metropolis. From the 21st of Feb the Russian jewellers Faberge have organized the world’s largest egg hunt consisting of other 200 fibreglass Easter eggs that will be hidden throughout the city. Many of the eggs have been created by famous designers such as Vivienne Westwood.

To take part in this cracking event just download an app map or pick up a hard copy.

Love-> Winter Animal Watching

Sunday, January 1st, 2012

In the winter months the days are short, the leaves have fallen off the trees, there’s a lack of food and life becomes that much tougher for Britain’s wildlife. But this is a fantastic time to find out about some of the hardier and fantastically adapted animals that co-inhabit this land with us. With birds being that much easier to spot and blankets of snow providing the perfect means to spot the tracks of wild animals. There is hardly a better time to venture outdoors.

If you brave the cold  weather for a winter woodland walk,  you might be rewarded with the Tawny owls distinctive hoot or the great spotted woodpeckers,  just jump in your thermals and get out there.

LOVE -> Crisp sunny days and cold cosy nights.

Sunday, January 1st, 2012

The nights are properly drawing in now and many of us will find ourselves getting home from work in the dark! Some might find this depressing, but I for one love a day filled with cold air and bright sunshine followed by a night in front of the fire – or electric heater in my case! – with a lovely glass of mulled wine and a blanket to snuggle under, bliss!

LOVE -> LWD

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

AKA the Little white dress. Forget the LBD, this season it is all about white. From lace to light cotton, from short to long, it doesn’t matter the style or the material, as long as you’ve got the colour right.

Pair them with flats and bare lags for a casual day look and add a slick of red lipstick for a modern evening look.

And for unpredictable spring weather, pair your LWD with black opaque tights for an edgy twist to this trend.

LOVE -> Spring nails

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Spring is well and truly upon us and one of the best things about that is the splashes of colour that we keep seeing as we wander down the high street, in London parks and even the office. And one of the best uses of colour that we are seeing this season is on peoples’ hands. That’s right- brightly coloured nail polish is big this season and it really is a case of the brighter the better. Think hot pinks, racy oranges and fluorescent greens and blues.

LOVE -> WishWantWear

Friday, May 20th, 2011

It’s happened to all of us. We have a big event coming up and nothing to wear. But we’ve just spent all of our money on signing up for the newest fad diet that didn’t work, the new pair of shoes that hurt our feet and an appointment with a life coach whose advice didn’t exactly go to plan. So what to do? Head to WishWantWear that’s what.

Founded by three friends who dreamed of a never-ending weekend wardrobe, WishWantWear let’s you select a designer dress online and it will be delivered the very next day.

The pilot site currently has a selection of hot-off-the-catwalk dresses from Halston Heritage, Temperley and Catherine Malandrino from just £25 with a wider selection coming soon. When time’s run out, simply return the garment via prepaid envelope (you don’t even have to worry about the dry cleaning).

LOVE -> Simple classic shapes

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

Every few years a collection emerges that reminds us just how elegant and beautiful simple clothing can be; and thankfully this year is one of them. Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2011 was an absolute triumph and reminded us that simple classic shapes and clean lines is the best way to show off the female form in all its glory. Stripped back and completely modest, these clothes are beautiful yet comfortable (finally!) and are the perfect way of showing off just how fab being a woman really is.

LOVE -> Karl Lagerfeld designs for Diet Coke

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Previously designed by Matthew Williamson, Gianfranco Ferre, Marni and Roberto Cavalli among others, Diet Coke and Coca-Cola bottles have been getting fashionable and collectable makeovers by fashion’s biggest names since 2003. And it turns out the king of fashion himself has just finished round two. These new designs see our favourite Diet Coke bottles adorned with pink stripes and spots- perfectly matching the Spring colour palate this season. But you’ll have to wait for summer to get your hands on them.

LOVE -> Dolce & Gabbana Britney love

Friday, April 1st, 2011

It’s fair to say that Britney Spears is the queen of the comeback. She has gone from pop princess to drug addict to shaving her own hair off to being back to number one- and just about everywhere in between. And as much as we secretly love to see stars hit rock bottom (come one, you now it’s true!) we love it more when they are back on top. So we are pleased to announce that once again Britney is back on top and, this time, is adorned from head to toe in D&G. Promotional images for Spears’s new album, Femme Fatale, see the 29-year-old pictured wearing a selection of pieces by the celebrated Italian design duo. They have even confessed to loving Britney and dancing around to her songs. Now that’s something we’d like to see!

LOVE -> The official beginning of spring

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

For so many reasons March is always a joyous month- none more so than the fact that it is the month we start to buy festival tickets for the summer, plan summer breaks and dream about the oh-so-now summer trends that are just about hitting the stores. And whilst there are SO many things that we could recommend this summer- there is one that we here at Macs are more excited than any other; The Secret Garden Party. Heralded last summer as the festival of the season, the Secret Garden Party is like no other festival on the circuit. Notorious for being kooky, quirky and downright debaucherous, this festival is for people who love things that are a little off the beaten track and as far away from mainstream as they come.

LOVE -> Baptiste Giabiconi

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Is it any wonder that he is the highest paid male model of the moment? Um… No.

Often referred to as Karl Lagerfeld’s lover (something that he casually refutes but a rumour that he doesn’t seem to mind), Giabiconi is one of the most perfect looking men one could ever hope to lay eyes on.

He has modelled for just about all of the big fashion houses, is persueing a music career and has been referred to by Lagerfeld himself as ‘a boy version of Gisele’… we can only dream.

Love -> Henry Cavill as the new Superman

Monday, February 7th, 2011

Now we know that discussing the ins and outs of the superhero world is not particularly ‘Macs’, but trust us… when it involves someone as hot as Henry Cavill we simply can’t help but give our two cents. Now many of you may have never heard of our nation’s newest heart throb; however that’s all set to change. Rumour has it he was one of three contenders (including Sam Worthington and Daniel Craig) to be shortlisted to star as the new Bond and only narrowly missed out. And he may now be counting his lucky stars because, come on, what man wouldn’t want to play the ever charming Clarke Kent and his always sexy, much fantasised-over alter ego?
